Purposing to Praise
It is in the process of being worshiped that God communicates His presence to men.
• DRAW AWAY DAILY TO THE SECRET PLACE (MATTHEW 6:6)
Find a quiet place whether it be your bedroom, your study or a place in your home that you have set apart. It may be a garden or porch. Make it your daily purpose to met with the Lord there. Be still and quiet before Him.
• DEAL WITH UN-CONFESSED SIN (1 JOHN 1:8-10)
This should be done throughout the day but when you do come into the "secret place" make sure that you deal with anything that may have grieved the Holy Spirit. Confess and repent of the sin. Ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse you and give you the strength to turn from the sin.
• ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT TO LEAD YOU INTO WORSHIP AND PRAISE (PHILIPPIANS 3:3)
When you come before the Lord to worship Him, you must come in dependence on the Holy Spirit. You must let His Spirit lead and control your spirit. Worship and praise becomes an exciting adventure as you let the Holy Spirit direct and guide your prayers.
• FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS (HEBREWS 12:2)
There will be numerous distractions when you try to draw near to the Lord in a quiet place. Ask the Spirit to help you concentrate and then fix all of your attention on the wonder of Christ Jesus and His love for you. Do not give up!!
• EXPRESS YOUR PRAISE TO HIM AUDIBLY USING THE SCRIPTURES IN YOUR PRAISE JOURNAL FOR EACH DAY.
Adapt the Scripture to make it personal for you. Try to memorize at least one Scripture verse from the journal every week. When you do this, the Holy Spirit can bring it back to your mind throughout your day and you will find that a spirit of praise begins to fill your day not just your hour alone with the Lord.
• SING HYMNS ALOUD TO THE LORD.
Each day of the praise journal also has a hymn after the Scripture. Sing or pray this aloud or make your own hymn of praise to sing. Personalize the hymns as well. Make them your own. For example, the first day of the journal has the hymn, Praise to the Lord, The Almighty. Sing it to the Lord- "Praise to my Lord...You are my health and salvation". Ask the Spirit to bring this hymn to your mind throughout the day. you will find that this will become a mighty weapon to fight against the difficulties and trials that you confront throughout your day.
• WRITE A SENTENCE OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING TO THE LORD EACH DAY IN YOUR JOURNAL.
It is a beautiful habit to begin and end your day with praise unto the Lord. Many days this may be difficult, especially if you are experiencing trials and heartache. These are the times when it is MOST important to praise God. It will become a sweet sacrifice unto oHim and you will find that it will dispel the darkness. Joy comes in the morning!
In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him.
